Quotas

As Microsoft plans to introduce quota restrictions soon, this page will show current and future quota values, and how S&T will manage these quota restrictions in the future.

The formula to calculate the UM System's Microsoft 365 storage quota is:

  • 100 TB for free + 26,000 A5 paid licenses x 100 GB per license = ~2.7 Petabytes of maximum storage. Currently, we consume 1.56PB of this maximum.

Currently, the quota for OneDrive is set to 5 TB for all users. This may be reduced to 1 TB or smaller.

This has been set to "let sites used as much storage as they need" which entails a 25 TB limit. This may be changed to a "per site" limit.

Storage settings for Microsoft Teams are linked with those of SharePoint, meaning that the same 25TB limit is in effect. Changes to the SharePoint quota will also affect Teams

Currently, all users can create Microsoft 365 groups. This may be changed to disable group creation by default and delegate the task to IT Pros, Help Desk staff, or other designated support teams. Making this change would also allow for naming standards to be applied, or else education of users to use new naming standards may take place.

Inactive mailboxes are in the process of being deleted, and there is an inconsistent application of quotas ranging from 25 to 100 GB. These quotas may be standardized and reduced in size.
